MULE 610 with Coil Springs You have to first put the bike in a position that will enable you to access all areas. We will start at the front of the bike. The first thing to do is remove the front cowl and trunk on the bike.
You can accomplish this by removing all the bolts (screws) around the perimeter of the cowl and removing some plastic "snap rivets". To remove the rivets simply pull the center section up and then the rest will follow. Jack up the truck and remove the wheels. You next have to remove the struts one side at a time.
These are the nuts you will have to remove so the struts will drop down.
Notice the nuts removed and the strut dropping thru the mount. In the next picture we see the strut leaned forward toward the headlamp buckets. This will put the strut in position to allow you to reach over the top and with an impact and socket remove the nut holding the coil retainer to the strut shaft.
Coil retainer.
Remove the stock coil and install the new one . Be sure to index your coil properly as shown below.
Notice the tang on the coil locates in the depression in the seat. You now take the coil spring retainer and separate the top black cap from the silver coil locator. (This is the piece with the folded down ears) Separate the two and you will find a bearing (poly graphite) install the coil spacer included with the tapered center side down. Replace the black cap and place this on the strut. You may have to pull the strut out as far as you can to finish the install. Place the retainer back on the strut and install the nut. Be VERY sure you have the locator and the coil spacer back in place and that the strut rod will pass through both of these items.
With every thing in place tighten the coil retainer reaching over the top as you did to remove it. Next install the strut spacer, placing it on top of the coil retainer.
Next install the splash shield and reattach the strut to the inner fender. You have completed the front.
Install the wheels and the lower the unit. Install the trunk in the reverse order of removal and you are ready to go to the back. Place the jack as shown AFTER removing the small shield. The shield is held in place with 4 10mm bolts. Remove the bolts and lay the shield to one side and place a jack as shown.
Be careful as this is the center balance point. The bike may want to rock. I solved my problem this way.
I strapped the front of the bike to the lift table. Remove the rear lower shock bolts and remove the bolts.
The tires have been removed here to help with the pictures. You may opt to not take them off. To do so will require another jack. From this shot you can see the proper placement of the brackets and sleeve. You may want to use the thick washer included between the stock bracket and outside side link. Doing this will even up the side links and some prefer to do this not using the washer will not cause any problems.
This is a rear view.
This is not necessary but I did it anyway. You will have to use your own zip tie.
At this point you can put the wheels back on and set the unit on the floor. You are finished.
